PlantVillage is a Penn State–originated initiative that leverages AI, satellite data, and cloud computing to help smallholder farmers adapt to climate change. Through the PlantVillage app and analytical platform, it aggregates farm-level data, provides pest and disease detection, delivers weather- and soil-informed advisories via mobile and SMS, supports locust monitoring, assists pastoralists with vegetation and water forecasts, and explores biochar-based carbon removal. The platform partners with organizations like UN FAO, FEWS NET, and IFPRI to scale impact across Africa, Asia, and the Americas.
